AUBURN HILLS – MI Green Team, ecoSTORE USA and the US Green Building Council Detroit Regional Chapter – Green Schools Committee have teamed up to offer kids a chance to show everyone what their school is doing or could be doing to be “green” through the My Green School Art Contest.

In conjunction with the Green School in a Lunchbox! pilot program launching in three Michigan schools this April, all Michigan students grades K-5 are invited to participate in the art contest.

?Schools play a crucial role in providing healthy, safe environments for children to learn,? said Peggy Matta, chairperson of the USGBC ? DRC Green Schools Committee. ?The art contest and our Lunchbox! program provide an opportunity to increase awareness of sustainability in schools in a fun and engaging way.?

The entries will be judged by three prominent figures in the community including, artist Daniel Cascardo and chairperson of the US Green Building- Detroit Regional Chapter, Green Schools Committee, Peggy Matta.

The contest winners will have their art work displayed at the Green Living Festival Click on miglf.Com in Rochester May 13-15 and displayed at the ecoSTORE USA headquarters in Auburn Hill.

Finalists will receive prizes and be invited out to ecoSTORE USA headquarters for a luncheon in their honor.

?Green School in a Lunchbox!? is a web-based, vibrant, and animated ?lunchbox? which introduces concepts of sustainable building to K-5th grade students. Through grade-appropriate, hands-on educational activities young students will be introduced to concepts of sustainability within the built environment and how daily choices affect our environment, community and world. Additional areas of the lunchbox will contain information for teachers, parents and administrators on the value of green schools.
