DEARBORN ? When Suzie Avery, Head of the Michigan Women’s Commission, and Cassandra Woods, State Director of the Office of Senator Carl Levin take the stage on May 17 for the National Association of Women Business Owners annual Public Policy Forum you can expect the questions – and most likely, the answers – to be tough.
Hosted this year by AAA of Michigan, One Auto Club Drive in Dearborn, the Forum runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and includes a continental breakfast, a panel discussion, and a Q&A session. Cost is $15 for NAWBO members and $25 for non-members. Early registration is encouraged as seating is limited and high attendance is expected.
Avery will discuss options for women wanting to start or expand a business in Michigan. Ms. Woods will speak on GSA scheduled, 8A Federal Programs, and “set-asides” for women businesses.
Joining them on stage are Shannon Garrett, Great Lakes Regional Director of The White House Project, who will speak about women running for office and getting involved in political office, and representatives of the Michigan Fair Tax Association and the Environmental Management Association. A tax panel will discuss the tax legislation moving through the Michigan Senate, the Fair Tax movement, and other tax-related topics.
“Today, more than at any time in our history, women play a critical role in the economic future of America,” says Linda Jolicoeur, chair of the event and a past president of the NAWBO Greater Detroit Chapter. “As women, we should all give attention to the state and national issues that affect us individually and as business owners.”
NAWBO was the first national women’s organization to tackle the tough issues of public policies that impact all of us.
