Herb Amster – Early Investor & Past Board Member, NanoBio Corporation, and Founder and Former CEO of Irwin Magnetic Systems: As founder of the legendary Irwin Magnetics, Herb is a pioneer of Ann Arbor?s IT industry. Herb oversaw a period of explosive growth as Irwin, which sold computer storage technology, grew to about 600 employees in the 1980s. Before Irwin, Herb was CFO at Sycor, Inc. He was an early investor at NanoBio and has served on the boards of NanoBio, ReCellular, Mechanical Dynamics, ERIM, and others.

James Baker Jr., MD – Executive Chairman & CEO, NanoBio Corporation: Jim is the inventor of NanoBio?s platform technology, founder of NanoBio, and an internationally recognized expert in immunology and biologic nanotechnology. He is also Director of the U-M Nanotechnology Institute, and is a board-certified internist, allergist, and immunologist. Jim also serves on a number of editorial and advisory boards.

Dave Peralta – COO & CFO, NanoBio Corporation: Dave has a record of success in helping to build successful technology ventures. At NanoBio, he led efforts to secure $30 million in Series A financing in 2006, and $11 million in Series B financing in 2008. Prior to NanoBio, Dave was CFO of Arbortext, where he assisted in transforming the company into a high-growth software business. Before ArborText, he was CFO at Mechanical Dynamics.

Our moderator for the discussion will be George Levy, Executive Vice President & CFO at GDI Infotech, and NEF Board Member. George has broad experience in corporate strategy and has participated in the development and growth of numerous Michigan high-tech start-ups.

Showcase Presentation: Each month, NEF highlights one or more emerging companies and provides them a Showcase Presentation. This month, our Showcase Presenters will be Oliver Baer of Clean Emission Fluids, which supplies diesel exhaust fluid, equipment, and service that will help diesel-powered vehicles meet new EPA emission standards in 2010, and Gerald Roston of Vortex Hydro Energy, which is bringing to market a novel power-generating device that extracts energy from moving water using vortex-induced vibrations.

Open Forum: The evening?s presentations are followed by Open Forum, during which attendees have the opportunity to make a 30-second pitch for their company, product/service, or need.
