ANN ARBOR ? Nonprofit Enterprise At Work announced the former CEO and General Counsel for W.K. Kellogg, Susan Katz McFall, will join the BoardConnect team and lead her first workshop on Sept. 9.
NEW?s BoardConnect program trains boards to be more effective, prepares individuals for board service and offers workshops on board member responsibilities.
?Susan brings a wealth of knowledge to the BoardConnect program,? said Diana Kern, NEW?s Vice President of Programs. ?Her experience with the nonprofit sector and expertise in board governance will enhance this program and lead to more effective and higher performing board members.?
McFall will lead her first workshop, called Serving on a Nonprofit Board, September 9 at the NEW Center in Ann Arbor from 4:30 ? 6:30 p.m. This workshop addresses the roles and responsibilities of a nonprofit board member in the areas of board operations, strategic planning, resource development, oversight and ambassadorship. It also gives a short introduction to the nonprofit world, including structuring, funding and functioning as a mission-based organization.
McFall is a consultant to nonprofit organizations, specializing in governance, with a focus on CEO and board relationships, strategic planning and visioning, and effective performance. Currently, she consults independently and in partnership with William P. Ryan (co-author with Richard P. Chait and Barbara E. Taylor of “Governance as Leadership: Reframing the Work of Nonprofit Boards” (John Wiley & Sons, 2005). Before consulting, she served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary to the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, one of the world?s largest private foundations, where she provided direct support to the Foundation?s board and led its board development work. Before this, she served as President/CEO of NEW for nearly 8 years. Prior to joining the nonprofit sector, she spent 14 years at Ford Motor Company, working on international and domestic legal matters. In her last position as Assistant General Counsel, she led a team of lawyers responsible for domestic and international corporate transactions.
