ANN ARBOR ? An attempt to sell a limited number of tickets for the University of Michigan Football fall campaign by the U-M Alumni Association Thursday went terribly wrong when the volume of traffic crashed the web servers, producing instead a huge volume of complaints.
The online sale started at 10 a.m. Thursday. By late afternoon, the Alumni Association issued a written apology to its email list, including MITechNews.Com Editor Mike Brennan, a graduate of the U-M Class of 1976.
?While we were anticipating a high-demand for tickets, the volume of traffic on the website was more than our servers could handle, and caused the site to temporarily shut down. As such, we received a large number of calls and emails requesting assistance,? the apology said.
?Please accept our sincerest apologies for the difficulties you encountered. We pride ourselves on our customer service and realize this attempt to streamline the ordering process has been less than satisfactory.
?We are currently organizing all of the emails and voicemails into chronological order so that we can attempt to satisfy as many requests as possible based on when we received the message (i.e. first come, first served).
?Unfortunately, the demand for Penn State tickets out-paced our supply and we are not able to satisfy all requests for that game. With the exception of Penn State, there are plenty of tickets available to fulfill the orders received.?
No one from the U-M Alumni Association could be reached for further comment.
