ANN ARBOR ? Jennifer Owens, a former vice president with the Michigan Economic Development Corp., will join Ann Arbor SPARK as its new vice president of business development, starting Dec. 7. Her job will be to support efforts to attract and retain new businesses in the Ann Arbor area.

“Jennifer’s experience in economic development is an asset that directly supports Ann Arbor SPARK?s efforts to expand the region?s economy,” said SPARK CEO Michael Finney. ?As we continue to look at ways to bring new business to our region and expand those businesses already calling Ann Arbor home, experienced leadership like Jennifer’s provides a distinct competitive advantage.?

Owens replaces Vince Nystrom, Ann Arbor SPARK’s previous vice president, business development. Nystrom is joining the University Research Corridor, an economic development partner of Ann Arbor SPARK.

Owens has more than 10 years experience in economic development, marketing and communications. Prior to joining Ann Arbor SPARK, Owens served as the MEDC’s vice president of Michigan retention and growth. In this role, Owens led a team of business development managers responsible for helping Michigan businesses maintain and expand facilities.

During her tenure with MEDC, she also served as managing director of business marketing and vice president of communications.

Owens received a bachelor of arts in journalism from Michigan State University.
