LANSING – A poll conducted for a conservative organization shows U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, the Democratic senatorial candidate, at 46 percent to 41 percent for Republican candidate Terri Land while Republican Governor Rick Snyder’s lead over Democratic challenger Mark Schauer was within the margin of error.
In the governor’s race, Snyder had 45 percent to 42 percent for Schauer.
The Liberty Foundation of America commissioned the poll, conducted by Colorado-based Magellan Strategies, and it was quickly trumpeted by the Peters campaign and the Michigan Democratic Party, given the Republican leanings of both organizations involved with the poll. It shows Schauer and Peters doing a bit better than some other recent publicly released polls.
The survey was conducted April 14-15 among 875 likely Michigan voters and has an error margin of plus or minus 3.31 percentage points.
Of those participating in the survey, 37 percent identified themselves as Democrats, 31 percent as Republicans and 32 percent as “something else.” Twelve percent of respondents identified themselves as black or African-American.
