LANSING – Though the numbers are close on both questions, voters appear to like Governor Rick Snyder, but are split on the job he is doing, an EPIC/MRA poll released Tuesday showed.
But the poll showed an overwhelming majority see the state improving.
Snyder garnered a 52 percent to 40 percent favorability rating, but 50 percent gave him a negative job rating (49 percent gave a positive rating). His favorability improved and job rating held steady from a poll in October, EPIC said.
But residents see the state as a whole doing well, with 70 percent saying the state economy is improving and 52 percent saying the state is headed in the right direction.
“The percentage saying the Michigan economy has already bottomed out and is starting to improve is at the highest level yet as Michigan continued to recover from the recession of the past several years,” the poll report said.
Michiganders’ view on the nation is not so rosy, with about 60 percent saying the nation is on the wrong track.
President Barack Obama saw 47-48 favorable/unfavorable rating and 58 percent gave him a negative job rating, to 41 percent positive. EPIC said those numbers had not changed since August.
The poll, conducted December 10-14 of 600 likely 2016 voters, had a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4 percentage points. EPIC/MRA paid for the poll.
