LANSING – The Public Service Commission on Tuesday approved three settlements involving DTE Gas Company, Alpena Power Company and Michigan Gas Utilities Corporation and SEMCO Energy Gas Company, respectively.

In the case of DTE Gas Company, the settlement authorizes a $927,000 refund, including interest, to its natural gas customers, the PSC said. Customers are due the refund because the company self-implemented a natural gas rate increase that was higher than what the commission ultimately approved.

The refund of 29 cents on the customer’s November bill will be applicable to residential customers using 100 ccf of natural gas a month.

The Alpena Power case involves energy optimization costs and revenues, and raising its energy optimization surcharge. The settlement will allow customers using 500 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month to see a decrease of seven cents on their monthly bill effective January 1, 2014.

The commission also approved settlement agreements for Michigan Gas Utilities Corporation and SEMCO Energy Gas Company authorizing their 2013-2014 gas cost recovery factors.

Michigan Gas Utilities Corporation is authorized to incorporate into its rates a base gas cost recovery factor of $4.7260 per thousand cubic feet for the 12-month period ending March 2014.

SEMCO Energy Gas Company, on the other hand, was authorized to incorporate into its rates a base gas cost recovery factor of $4.7299 per dekatherm, effective with the next billing month.

ENERGY.ME GRANTED LICENSE: The commission granted a license to energy.me as an alternative electric supplier. The company applied for a license on May 21 and is headquartered in Chicago. It has an office in Ann Arbor.
