WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers’ name had surfaced as a possible choice for President Barack Obama to name as FBI director, but Obama went in a different direction, announcing Wednesday his nomination of James Comey, a former top official in the U.S. Department of Justice, for the post.

Rogers (R-Brighton) had the support of the FBI Agents Association for the post, which becomes vacant in September with the end of Director Robert Mueller III’s term. Rogers is chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

With the FBI post off the table, now attention fully turns to whether Rogers will run for the Senate.
