ANN ARBOR – ArborBike, Ann Arbor’s bike share program, will
celebrate its full system launch June 5 with 14 stations and 125 bicycles
throughout the downtown and university campus areas. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place in
the quad located at South University and East University at 11:30 am.
Like other bike share programs, ArborBike is meant to be
used for quick trips and checkout time is limited to keep the bikes in
circulation. Members are able to take unlimited 60-minute trips during a day
without additional charges. For each additional 30 minutes on a trip over 60
minutes, it costs $3.
“This celebration has been many years in the making.
ArborBike was first approved by City Council in August 2013 and now it is
finally a reality for the Ann Arbor community,” said Sean Reed, Executive
Director of Clean Energy Coalition, the nonprofit that owns and operates
ArborBike. “This is truly a testament to the collaborative effort and vision our
partners – University of Michigan, City of Ann Arbor, and TheRide – have
brought forth for this program. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for ArborBike marks
the launch of a new era for Ann Arbor in clean, healthy transportation.”
ArborBike is now fully operational, its final 8, of the 14
initially planned stations, were installed May 29. The first six stations were
installed on University of Michigan and Ann Arbor District Library property back
in September 2014.
The newly installed stations include a station outside of
the North Quad dormitory on State & Washington, one near Walgreens on N.
University & State, and one near Bank of America on Washington & Main.
Additionally, stations will be placed at Kerrytown and outside of City Hall.
Stations will also be located near the Shapiro Undergraduate
Library at S. University & E. University and one near Elbel Field at S.
Division & Hill. For a full map of ArborBike’s locations, click on www.arborbike.org.
