DETROIT – Mitt Romney is like President Barack Obama in many ways, yet Rick Santorum, his opponent in the Republican primary to challenge Obama, said he would consider Romney as a potential running mate and would support him over Obama should he win the ultimate nomination.
At a taping of Michigan Public Television’s “Off The Record” on Friday, Santorum said Romney was using the same tactics Obama had used to get elected: tell people what they want to hear.
“In some respects, they’re cut out of the same cloth,” Santorum said of Romney and Obama, saying both had changed positions on important issues.
But he said the two are not “two peas in a pod” and he would consider Mr. Romney as a running mate should he win the nomination.
“I would consider anybody in the field,” he said after the taping. “Governor Romney obviously has a good record and would be a good recommendation.”
