ANN ARBOR – Sakti3 announced the inclusion of its advanced solid state battery technology among MIT Technology Review’s 2011 TR10, an annual list of the world’s ten most important emerging technologies.

Each TR10 winner is drawn from the editors? coverage of key fields, and is based on a simple question: is the technology likely to change the world? These innovations ? each represented by a researcher whose vision and work is driving the field ? promise fundamental shifts in areas from energy to health care, computing to communications.

?If electric and hybrid vehicles are to account for more than a small percentage of vehicles on the road, cheaper and better batteries are needed. Sakti3 could deliver the needed breakthrough by focusing on ways to economically mass-produce a new type of battery?a so called solid-state battery?that can safely store more energy than a traditional lithium-ion battery, which would reduce the cost of electric and hybrid vehicles and extend their range,? says Stephen Cass, special project editor at Technology Review.

?We are pleased to be recognized by a preeminent technology-focused publication such as the Technology Review,? said Dr. Ann Marie Sastry, CEO of Sakti3. ?This is a testament to the hard work of the Sakti3 team, which has been successful in making rapid progress towards bringing our technology from the lab to the marketplace.?
