LANSING – Governor Rick Snyder on Friday appointed Jenell Leonard of DeWitt as director of the Film Office, replacing Margaret O’Riley, who will now take on the role of the vice president of corporate affairs at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

O’Riley had just been re-appointed to her position earlier this month for a term expiring December 31, 2016. Under her direction, the Film Office during fiscal year 2013-14 awarded 27 projects more than $63.7 million in incentives on more than $245.4 million worth of projected in-state expenditures with the expectation of 2,181 hires (a full-time equivalent of 1,298 jobs).

Leonard is the director of external and strategic affairs for Lt. Governor Brian Calley and the wife of Rep. Tom Leonard (R-DeWitt). She will take over the Film Office effective February 9, a statement from the governor’s office indicated.

“Jenell is dedicated to Michigan’s reinvention and brings extensive state government experience to this position,” Snyder said in the statement. “I look forward to continuing to work with Jenell in this new role and thank Margaret for her service to our state.”

Leonard worked on initiatives related to good government and state engagement, employment disability, autism, mental health and the New International Trade Crossing while working for Calley. She also organized the 2013 Council of Great Lakes Governor’s Summit on Mackinac Island and previously served as legislative staff in the House of Representatives.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Walden University and is an alumna of the Michigan Political Leadership Program.
