LANSING – Governor-elect Rick Snyder said Monday that he plans to present a two-year budget, one for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 fiscal years, to the Legislature next year.
“There’s no reason to wait,” he said at a Capitol news conference. “We can’t afford to wait. Let’s get going on this new process.”
Going to a two-year budget has been discussed for years, but never implemented.
Snyder also said he had made no decision on how he would handle his compensation, but did say he would take into account the added costs of travel and security with him staying at his Ann Arbor home instead of moving to the governor’s residence in Lansing when doing so.
And Snyder indicated he would not necessarily follow Governor Jennifer Granholm’s plan to replace two out of every three state workers who take advantage of the early retirement incentive.
“You need to have to look at each position to say do you really need to replace something or do you actually need more help,” he said.
