LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters, which endorsed Governor Rick Snyder in 2010 in the Republican primary, gave Snyder a “C” grade for his first two years in office, according to a statement released Friday.

The report card is based on Snyder’s bill signings, vetoes, appointments, executive orders, permit approvals and denials during his term so far, the statement said in “How Green is Your Governor?”

“The governor always promises relentless positive action; this midterm report card is the result of our own relentless tracking,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director at the league. “The governor is also consistently seeking metrics to determine progress – a practice we rely on ourselves. We are happy to share our metrics of his performance with the public now.”

The league endorsed Snyder because his platform embraced the importance of protecting Michigan’s land, air and water. Since taking office, the statement said, Snyder’s activity has been focused on transportation and agriculture and not much has been done to conserve resources, resulting in his average grade.

“We would love nothing more than to assign Governor Snyder an A+ on the next report card and have him proudly take it home and pin it to the refrigerator,” Wozniak said. “For now, though, if we were to scrawl a quick note at the bottom of this one it would simply say that ‘the governor shows remarkable potential, but he has yet to really apply himself. As a bit of a nerd, he must better stand up for himself when confronted by bullies in the Legislature.'”
