LANSING – Michigan already has strong relationships with a number of Japanese companies and is ready to expand on those, as well as build new ones, Governor Rick Snyder said Monday at the 2013 Midwest U.S.-Japan Association Conference in Tokyo.
In addition to Michigan’s strong presence of foreign companies, recent tax changes and other reforms make the state a better place to invest, he said.
“We have come to open new doors for trade and business between our state and Japan,” Snyder said. “We see many great opportunities ahead for all of us to do more business together.”
Snyder also reaffirmed the sister state agreement with Governor Yukiko Kada of Shiga Prefecture, Japan. The agreement not only ensures some diplomatic ties, but also exchanges regarding education, business and tourism.
“The Michigan-Shiga partnership is one of the oldest sister state agreements between the United States and Japan. We value this long-term friendship with Shiga and we look forward to continuing the relationship for years to come,” Snyder said.
