LANSING – Those convicted of methamphetamine-related offenses would have to register with the state and pharmacies would have additional licensing and safety requirements under legislation signed Wednesday by Governor Rick Snyder.
The pharmacy package, prompted by the fungal meningitis outbreak from contaminated steroids, requires every pharmacy to have a licensed “pharmacist-in-charge” responsible for ensuring the facility is complying with its license and state law and is properly recording its sales (SB 704 , PA 280). A companion bill (SB 904 , PA 279) provides criminal penalties for pharmacists who, in violating their license or state regulations, injured or killed someone.
The meth package (SB 535 , PA 276, and SB 756 , PA 275) creates a registry of those with meth-related offenses. Anyone on the registry would be prohibited from purchasing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine.
Snyder also dedicated $3 million annually for Capitol upkeep and improvements using tobacco tax revenue (SB 678 , PA 272).
Snyder has now signed or vetoed all bills presented to him by the Legislature. He also signed:
