LANSING – Physicians will use one standardized form for obtaining prior authorization from a patient’s insurer when a patient seeks coverage for prescribed medicine under legislation signed by Governor Rick Snyder.
Snyder signed SB 178 (PA 30, effective 90 days after sine die adjournment) and SB 179 (PA 31, also effective 90 days after sine die adjournment). Snyder signed the bills Tuesday, but they were filed Thursday with the Office of the Great Seal.
“Michigan physicians and their staffs want to be in the exam room with patients, not chained to their desks sorting through hundreds of different versions of the same basic form,” said Doctor Kenneth Elmassian, president of the Michigan State Medical Society. “Governor Snyder and lawmakers today sent a clear message to families across the state that when it comes to health care, patients come first.”
