EAST LANSING – College-bound students who are interested in the Michigan State University College of Engineering are invited to East Lansing on Oct. 5, for Spartan Future Engineer Preview Day.
?Preview Day is the once-a-year opportunity for high school juniors, seniors and transfer prospective students and their parents to attend faculty-led academic informational sessions and learn about what the Spartan Engineers offer at the Resource Fair,? said Drew Kim, assistant to the dean for recruitment, scholarships and K-12 outreach. ?It?s the best chance to sample the activities and accomplishments of engineering at Michigan State.?
Participants will have opportunities to talk with current MSU professors and students, view interactive demonstrations, undergraduate research posters and projects, and learn more about the college?s academic programs in:
Applied Engineering Sciences,
Biosystems Engineering,
Chemical Engineering and Materials Science,
Civil and Environmental Engineering,
Computer Science and Engineering,
Electrical and Computer Engineering, and
Mechanical Engineering.
Representatives of the offices of Engineering Recruitment and K-12 Outreach, Admissions, Study Abroad, Financial Aid, Advising, Guided Learning Center, the Engineering Library, Division of Engineering Computing Services, Women In Engineering, and the Diversity Programs Office will be available to answer questions until 1 p.m. He advised participants who want to tour engineering laboratories to wear closed-toes shoes, which is a required safety precaution.
Preview Day activities are geared to upper-level high school students so attendance by younger student groups is not recommended, Kim added.
Spartan Future Engineers Preview Day is free in the MSU Engineering Building, 428 S. Shaw Lane, East Lansing, MI, 48824, but pre-registration is required since the event attracts about 1,000 participants, Kim said. Register by Sept. 27 at EGR.MSU.Edu
