DETROIT – Strategic Staffing Solutions has named Laura Hughes the vice president of communications and community. In this role, Hughes will oversee communications and philanthropic activities for S3?s corporate headquarters in Detroit and the company?s 31 global branch locations. She replaces Marge Sorge who is retiring from S3, but will continue to publish the Bulldog, a weekly news compilation of stories about the Motor City.
?Laura has demonstrated an expertise and inherent passion for driving change at organizations and in the communities they serve,? said Cynthia J. Pasky. ?Her addition to the S3 team will be of great value to our global brand and mission to provide opportunities to the people and communities where we conduct business.?
Hughes has more than 10 years experience in philanthropic management and institutional marketing. She is coming to S3 from the Skillman Foundation where, as program officer, she led the strategic visioning for the organization?s $4 million youth development portfolio.
Prior to joining Skillman in 2013, Hughes was the executive director the Ruth Ellis Center for three years. In that role, she set the strategic vision and managed the $1.4 million organization that served homeless and at risk lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender and questioning youth. During her time at the Ruth Ellis Center, she served as the local organizer of the White House Conference on LGBT Housing & Homelessness and established strategic partnerships with the State of Michigan Department of Human Services, Wayne County, and Genesee County Department of Human Services. As a result of those partnerships an LGBT task force was formed that helped more of these at risk children find permanent placement.
?S3 is a model corporation and a business and civic leader in each of its 31 global branch locations,? said Hughes. ?It?s an honor to work with such a reputable team to help design and deliver the company?s marketing and philanthropic initiatives.?
