LANSING – Some 436,000 individuals could get federal tax subsidies to purchase health insurance on the federal exchange, a study by the Kaiser Family Foundation showed.
The study showed that 436,000 was out of a potential market of 725,000 individuals who could avail themselves of health insurance through the federal exchange.
Nationwide, the study said, some 17.2 million people could get federal tax subsidies for health insurance benefits out of a potential market of more than 28 million.
The subsidies are available to individuals with incomes between 100 percent and 400 percent of the federal poverty level (which for an individual could mean an income as much as nearly $46,000).
Separately, individuals with incomes of up to 133 percent of the federal poverty level will be eligible in Michigan to apply for Medicaid coverage.
The state with the largest number of people who could be eligible for tax subsidies is Texas, where the study estimated more than 2 million people could qualify for the subsidies out of a potential market of more than 3.1 million.
