NEW YORK ? A new survey shows 68 percent of respondents with a cell contract struggle to afford their monthly bill, primarily due to rising costs in phone plans and extra fees. Another 34 percent of respondents said they were struggling to afford their monthly cell bill due to other financial commitments and bills that they had to pay.

The survey was conducted by CouponeCode4U.Com in a survey of 1,623 Americans, aged 18-35, in a bid to discover more about their feelings towards their cell phone plans and the companies that provide them.

Respondents were initially asked if they had a monthly contract or pay-as-you-go plan for their cell, to which 72 percent replied that they had a monthly contract, while the remaining respondents said they had a pay-as ?you go plan. Those who replied that they had a monthly contract were asked to stipulate what type of phone carrier they had. Over half, 47 percent said they had a contract with Verizon; 28 percent said they used AT&T, while 15 percent had Sprint and 10 percent said T-Mobile.

24 percent of respondents said that they had delayed upgrading to a smartphone, such as an iPhone or Android model, due to being unable to afford ?to pay for the phone fees outright.?

37 percent of consumers admitted that they had ?got into debt? in order to keep paying to use their cell phone, while almost half, 46 percent, admitted to having previously paid a cell contract late or missed a payment due to lack of funds.

When asked whether or not they were happy with the level of service given to them by network providers, 65 percent said ?no?. A quarter, 23 percent, of respondents even said that they would switch providers.

All respondents that had a contract cell phone were asked if they had ever received an unexpectedly high bill, to which 59 percent said ?yes?. Furthermore, 64 percent admitted they had made a ?poor choice? when selecting what tariff to go on originally; either due to the fact it was more than they needed and were therefore paying too much or that it was less than they needed and they kept going over their allowance of minutes or texts and paying more.

?As we are continually interested in polling our customers to see what they spend their money on, I was not surprised to see the lack of enthusiasm that Americans feel about their cell phone providers and high monthly tariffs, which leave people struggling to make their payments each month,? said Mark Pearson, Chairman of CouponCodes4u.com.

?Many families with teenagers who use smart phones often feel that they are not getting the best value for money, with customers forced to pay for smart phones outright and expensive data and monthly tariffs. My top advice would be, when picking a tariff when taking out a cell contract, really consider how many texts and minutes you need. Once you?ve committed to it, make sure you stick to what your contract entitles you to, in order to avoid nasty surprises when it comes to paying up. At CouponCodes4u, we offer the best deals on cell phones and personal gadgets, so make sure you check us out before extending your contract.?
