GRAND RAPIDS ? Ted Heilman has joined Van Andel Institute as Assistant Director, Investments ? Senior Portfolio Manager. In this newly created position, he assists with the management of the Institute?s endowment.

Heilman worked previously as senior portfolio manager and head of portfolio management in the Wealth Management Group at Fifth Third Bank, where he managed the bank?s largest and most sophisticated client mandates. Prior to joining Fifth Third, he was director of research at Woodside Asset Management, a boutique money management firm located in Menlo Park, CA, that specializes in high net-worth families, as well as endowments and charities.

?The Van Andel Research Institute?s goal is to have an impact world-wide on medical science and education,? said Heilman. ?Supporting the Institute?s goal by adding value to the endowment?s portfolio management effort is truly an honor.?

Heilman?s experience also includes almost eight years at Bank Julius Baer in New York, where he was senior U.S. equity analyst and portfolio manager. His background also includes one year in Tokyo, Japan with ULTRA, Ltd., an American management consulting company, and one year as a financial analyst with The Walt Disney Company.

Heilman holds a B.S. in economics from Arizona State University and an M.S. in finance from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA. He is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, serves as co-program chair for the Western Michigan Society of Financial Analysts and is a member of CFA Institute.
