MIDLAND ? The second annual heading for the Big Leagues celebrates entrepreneurship in the mid-Michigan region on May 27 and gives attendees an opportunity to network and see firsthand some of the innovative products and services being developed in the region.

Once again, the concourse at Dow Diamond will be transformed to a technology and innovation showcase, providing exhibitors the opportunity to display and demonstrate their innovative products to potential investors as well as key business, community and political leaders.

The keynote speaker will be Dwight D. Carlson, chief executive officer of Coherix, Inc. A longtime successful entrepreneur, he has worked toward his vision of teaming universities, government and industry to solve complex challenges. Mr. Carlson will talk about his experiences as an entrepreneur and about the importance of private and public sectors working together.

Special recognition will be provided to entrepreneurs and businesses that have cultivated mid-Michigan’s entrepreneurial environment, including established and emerging companies that are critical to growing Michigan’s economy.

The Ted Doan Spirit of Innovation Award

New this year, the Ted Doan Spirit of Innovation Award, was created to honor and showcase outstanding innovators in the MidMichigan Region. It will be given annually to just one individual who stands out as an example of successful innovation and entrepreneurship.

To win the award a person must be the best example of innovation and entrepreneurship in the MidMichigan Region for that year. They would have to have the following qualities that were exemplified by Ted Doan: Vision, Integrity, Character, and Generosity.
