GRAND RAPIDS – The Geek Group has received a donation from Autodesk Inc. of more than $200,000 in 3D design software that will let members of the group create new products, works of art, as well as educate themselves on this Computer-Aided-Design software.

Autodesk Inc. is a world leader in 3D design software for entertainment, natural resources, manufacturing, engineering, construction, and civil infrastructure. Members at the Geek Group now have access to the entire Building Design and Product Design CAD Suite.

The Geek Group is the only public organization in West Michigan that provides the equipment and resources for anyone to take their idea from design to prototype to full production all in one facility. Once completing a CAD design using the new Autodesk software, members can prototype their designs on any one of six Affinia H Series 3D printers or on the organization?s new $30,000 Dimension Elite 3D printer. Once the product design is finalized through the prototype process, the product can be machined utilizing the organization?s state of the art Haas CNC 5-Axis Mill, CNC Lathe, or CNC Sheet Router. Staff and volunteers who are experts in CAD design, prototyping, and CNC machining are available to assist members.

The announcement comes just one month after the Geek Group opened to the public. Since then, the organization has been growing in membership and continuously adding new equipment and software which are all available for the public to use. The Geek Group also continues to announce new events for members and the general public to network and interact with other creative individuals and industry experts. Anyone 16 years of age or older can join for a monthly fee of $40/month or a one-time yearly fee of $365.25 ? equivalent to $1 per day.

The Geek Group gives public tours every Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m. Anyone interested in becoming a member can also schedule a private tour by calling 616-466-GEEK (4335).
