DEARBORN – Entrepreneurs and investors. Mark your calendars for Oct. 23-24 when TiEcon Midwest 2009 returns to the Ritz-Carlton where you can leverage industry networking, and participate in a Business BootCamp, and help rekindle the entrepreneurial spirit in Michigan.

TiEcon Midwest also will celebrate the INNOVATIVE Entrepreneur – the extraordinary person who thinks Big and Out of the box, Learns to adapt to changing conditions, and Dares to create his or her own future.

History tells us that every economic downturn spawns a new group of entrepreneurs – in fact, 16 of the Dow Jones 30 companies were founded during a recession or depression, said Tel Gansen, TiE Detroit president.

“You can’t get this information from a Business school,” he said. “You need to be guided by successful entrepreneurs who have been there before.”

Gansen said TiEcon Midwest 2009 will reach out to several types of entrepreneurs and professionals.

“If you are a professional and have an entrepreneurial mid set, how do I move to become an entrepreneur?” Gansen said. “Well, we have a boot camp on how to form a team, legal pitfalls, how to scale a company. We have a wide range of business boot camps. There are different types of entrepreneurs. Entry level less than $5 million in revenue. Companies making $10 million and above they can learn how to grow their business to $25 million and above.”

Gansen said the TiE Detroit board considered not hosting the conference this year because of the difficult economic climate in Michigan.

“But it makes more sense than ever to do a conference during this time,” he said. “What Michigan needs is innovation and to stimulate the economy. TiE Midwest 2009 is not just a conference, but an economic stimulus package for the whole of Michigan. It’s truly about creating new entrepreneurs who create new business opportunities to create new jobs in the state.”
