ANN ARBOR ? University of Michigan Finance Professor David Brophy was given the Lifetime Achievement Award Monday night by the Michigan Venture Capital Association in part for his idea to create an annual get together for VC’s around the country to showcase Michigan technology startups.

Brophy is the father of the Michigan Growth Capital Symposium, hosted each spring by the U-M. This year’s symposium attracted more than 500 participants, including some of the top Venture Capitalists nationwide.

Also receiving awards Monday night were:

Lycera Corp, named the MVCA Venture Financing Of the Year Award winner. Lycera is an early-stage small-molecule pharma company in Plymouth. The company announced a Series A round of $36 million in April.

NanoBio Corp, the MVCA Financing of the Year Award winner. NanoBio, a biotech company that develops novel topical products for preventing and treating infectious diseases, has raised more than $90 million in investment and grants.

Asterand PLC, the MVCA 100 Award. Asterand, a human tissue bank center at Wayne State University?s TechTown, achieved a stock appreciation of more than 100 percent since the company went public on the London Stock Exchange in 2007.

The MVCA is a non-profit trade organization designed to bring together venture capital industry participants in the state of Michigan. The organization?s goal is to grow and sustain a vibrant venture capital community in Michigan. Our membership includes private venture capital funds, corporate venture capital funds, private equity firms, angel investors, and entrepreneurial infrastructure participants. The MVCA is a vehicle to bring together industry participants and to provide a concerted voice for Michigan’s venture capital industry.
