LANSING – Unemployment rates in 16 of Michigan’s 17 labor markets fell in October when compared to September, figures released Tuesday by the Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed.
Only in the Detroit-Warren-Livonia market, the state’s largest, did October’s unemployment rate remain unchanged from the 8.1 percent in September, the state said.
The jobless rates were seasonally unadjusted rates.
The Ann Arbor and Holland-Grand Haven markets tied for the lowest rates in October at 4.1 percent. The Ann Arbor rate was down by 0.6 percentage points, from 4.7 percent in September. The Holland-Grand Haven region was down by 0.4 percentage points from 4.5 percent in September.
The Grand Rapids-Wyoming market was second lowest market at 4.2 percent.
Detroit’s 8.1 percent was the market with the highest jobless rate.
Among the counties, Kent County had the lowest rate at 4 percent, with Mackinac, Ottawa and Washtenaw counties all tied at 4.1 percent in second place.
Wayne County had the highest jobless rate at 9.3 percent.
