LANSING – On April 13, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation will team up with regional business leaders and economic developers to host Pure Michigan Opportunity West Coast ? connecting new professionals, college students, and recent graduates with Muskegon and Grand Haven-area employers with jobs to fill.

?West Michigan is enjoying a new era of economic growth and opportunity, and we need to make sure the employers who are leading this resurgence have the talent they need to thrive today and into the future,? said Amy Cell, Senior Vice President for Talent Enhancement at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. ?Our message to top Michigan grads and students is this: you can find a great job, an affordable place to live, and world-class options for recreation and entertainment all right here on Michigan?s West Coast.?

Pure Michigan Opportunity West Coast kicks off April 13 with an 11 a.m. welcome and luncheon at the Lake House Waterfront Grille on Muskegon Lake in downtown Muskegon. Career networking with Michigan employers follows from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Grand Valley State University Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC), adjacent to the Lake House.

From MAREC, participants will tour exciting, affordable places to live and play in both Muskegon and Grand Haven, and end their day with a reception at the Kirby House from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. One participant will win an Apple iPad courtesy of Great Lakes Ford and the Lake House Grille.

At least two dozen regional employers will take part in the event, including ADAC Automotive, Alcoa Howmet, Herman Miller, Mercy Health Partners, Michigan Spring and Stamping, and Huntington National Bank.

?Michigan?s west coast has a lot to offer new professionals and recent college graduates,? said Ed Garner, President and CEO of Muskegon Area First. ?Along with the many career opportunities available to top talent, this area offers world-class beaches and free access to more waterfront than any other community in the state. With a winter sports complex, performing arts center, upscale eateries and nightspots, a diverse population, and some of the most affordable housing in the state, Muskegon and Grand Haven can compete with many of the top live, work, and play destinations in the country.?

Pure Michigan Opportunity West Coast is one initiative in a statewide effort to connect companies, jobs and skilled job seekers.
