MUSKEGON ? The Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center is hosting a briefing on Aug. 15 to update the public on a wind turbine floating platform system, what has been described as the next generation of marine wind turbine design.
Charles Nordstrom, naval architect and marine engineer with Glosten Associates, will discuss the Glosten Pelastar and the potential of this new technology and what it may mean for the development of offshore wind energy in the Great Lakes or other marine environments.
As the potential for offshore commercial-scale wind energy development in the Great Lakes is explored, new wind energy technology may be adding promising new options for sustainable energy development.
Glosten Associates, an international marine engineering and consulting firm based in Seattle, Washington, has developed Pelastar, a wind turbine floating platform system that may eliminate the need for construction of turbines anchored on lake or ocean bottoms. The technology shows promise for reducing both cost and potential environmental impacts.
RSVP requested but not required.
Attendance is free; refreshments will be served.
