ANN ARBOR ? Young Basile has hired former Pfizer attorney and bioscientist Mehdi Ganjeizadeh to lead its new Life Science industry group in its new office in downtown Ann Arbor across the street from Ann Arbor SPARK.

Ganjeizadeh said he chose Young Basile because of its entrepreneurial environment and the opportunity to build a new emerging industry group for the firm, which also has offices in California.

?This is an incredible opportunity for me to use both my scientific and legal background to assist a number of former Pfizer scientists and Ann Arbor area bio science start-ups get the expertise they need to become successful,? Ganjeizadeh said.

?Believe it or not, I see many positive things coming out of the Pfizer closing in Ann Arbor. First and foremost ? this will be a new opportunity for many of Pfizer?s former scientists who elected, like me, to stay in the area and launch their own companies and start ups,? he said. ?Now that they?re free from the Pfizer structure, they will have more entrepreneurial opportunities than they had before. I believe that with my and Young Basile?s expertise, we are strategically poised to give them the tools they need to succeed.?

Young Basile partner Andy Basile said despite the closing of Pfizer?s research and development facilities in Ann Arbor, the firm remains optimistic about the prospects for the growing life sciences sector in Michigan.

?We felt that a great need to grow our practice was to bring in someone like Dr. Ganjeizadeh who had the credentials and experience to work with the medical and scientific community,? he said.

Basile also said the company will be moving to a more central and expanded location at 301 East Liberty Street in downtown Ann Arbor with greater proximity to local businesses and technology development groups such as Ann Arbor SPARK/IT Zone.
