LANSING ? Dan Lohrmann, the long-time Michigan Chief Information Security Officer, has spent the past several months accumulating to his new role in the private sector where he is Chief Strategist and Chief Security Officer at Security Mentor, which is developing executive training for business executives.

Lohrmann said while still working at the State he helped plan the North American International Cyber Summit on Nov. 17 at Cobo Center. He also worked on the newly updated Cyber Michigan plan, which Gov. Rick Snyder will announce next week.

?I work for the state for 17 years and loved my job,? Lohrmann said. ?But Security Mentor provided me with a really fantastic opportunity. I felt like I needed a new challenge.?

Lohrmann said he?s spent the first three months on the job traveling on an extensive speaking tour, including stops in New York City, Silicon Valley, Ann Arbor and even Columbus, Ohio. He said it?s been a great opportunity to be an evangelist for cyber awareness around the country. He called working at Security Mentor a continuation of the mission and vision he did for the state of Michigan.

?It?s not straight consulting,? he said. ?We?re really trying to develop training package for enterprises and end users. We?re focused on large companies around the country, much like what I did at the State of Michigan and Maryland. We call it security training employees love to take. People are always into new apps, robots, the Internet of Things ? the company has a vision and a goal of teaching end users things that are not boring. It?s a very different model that I think will catch on.?

Lohrmann said he?s been the one-man office for Security Mentor in Michigan. But that could change next year as the young company will be looking to add to its 27-person staff. For more information, click on SecurityMentor.Com
