LANSING – The governor will have a director advisor on emergencies, natural or man-made, under a new executive order. The order (EO 2017-1), issued Wednesday but not publicized until Thursday, creates the position of homeland security advisor in the Department of State Police as well as a Homeland Protection Board to advise that person and to develop a homeland security strategy.
The board is made up of the directors of the departments of Agriculture and Rural Development; Civil Rights; Environmental Quality; Health and Human Services; Military and Veterans Affairs; Natural Resources; Technology, Management and Budget; and Transportation.
The order rescinds EO 2009-52, which created a similar board but with somewhat different membership.
