BATTLE CREEK – The Battle Creek Air National Guard base will see 70 new jobs with the assignment of a cyber operations squadron to the base.

Battle Creek will house one of the four new squadrons intended to defend the nation against computer-based attacks.

The base has housed a cyber range hub, part of the state’s system to experiment with defenses against various types of online attacks, since 2014.

“Cyber-attacks are an unfortunate reality of a world that is becoming increasingly more dependent on technology,” Governor Rick Snyder said in a statement announcing the squadron assignment. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done to establish Michigan as a national leader in this field. The new cyber unit will help ensure we remain on the forefront of this mission and provide new and future opportunities for growth.”
