DETROIT – On this month’s anniversary of 9/11, it is only fitting that InfraGard takes a moment to reflect on the event that was possibly the single greatest catalyst to the development of the security organization. While there are tons of websites that contain information about the terrorist attacks and subsequent reaction of the United States and other countries around the world, one recent blog post on Wired magazine caught my attention. It looks like rather than talk about what had happened in the past and lamenting our progress to-date, some so far unknown entities have taken some rather bold action.
Stating in the headline that Al-Qaida’s Propaganda sites have been smacked down, the blog entry at Wired.Com goes on to speculate that due to the thoroughness of this particular effort, with the al-Ekhlaas.net domain suddenly re-registered and now belonging to joker.com, their youtube account suspended, and many related and mirror sites also down, that only the feds have that kind of reach. Of course plenty of others have been fingered as well, but apparently none have stepped forward to own it.
So let’s take a lesson from our unknown role model out there, and when you encounter those elements that we collectively choose to protect the general public from, apply your creativity and do what you can to make things less simple for those that would wish us ill.
Official business wise, members of Michigan InfraGard should have received at least two emails recently asking you to connect to the secure infraGard website to complete a new security document I alluded to in an earlier posting. Please do this at your earliest convenience.
And if anyone has any knowledge of those involved, please pass on my congratulations.
