A good number of companies are surviving and thriving in the modern tech world after successfully navigating the age of agile. They have transitioned from traditional methodologies to agile ones.

This way, they have managed to gain higher levels of performance and improvements in the workplace. This has led to customer satisfaction, employee engagement, improved growth, and profitability. However, navigating the age of agile is not easy.

Companies need to ensure that they have helped and prepared their managers for agile. This is important since managers are the leading decision-makers and drive the agenda of the companies they work for. But how can they do that?

Ensure That Managers are Trained

Transitioning from traditional methodologies to agile ones might mean that a company will have to bring new ideas and practices into the workplace. This might seem normal for any company, but you need to understand that it might be a disaster for your managers.

Most of your managers might pretend to be okay. They might tell you that they can shift and navigate the age of agile without any problems or guidance. However, this fails most of the time. You need to do what is best for your company and the managers.

To navigate the age of agile perfectly, companies need to ensure that they have training sessions for their managers. They can either do this on-site or look for institutions that offer agile training.

Strengthen the Company’s Vision for Agile

A good number of companies excel when making financial goals. However, these goals are a source of motivation only to the top executives, not the companies’ managers. So what can they do to prepare their managers for agile?

Well, they need to strengthen their visions for agile. One way of doing this is by establishing KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) metrics that align with their agile development methodologies. This ensures that their managers are connected with a strong sense of purpose.

A company’s employees and customers are very important. This means that companies should leave charts and financial projections and ensure that their managers find it easy to navigate the age of agile. This way, they will achieve great levels of success.

Invest in the Right Tools

There are different ways through which companies can manage agile development. This might include traditional ways such as the use of spreadsheets, index cards, and Ms Project, among others. However, using these methods means that you forget about collaboration.

Companies need to understand the importance of investing in the right tools for managers to help them navigate the age of agile. These tools make it easy for them (managers) to gather requirements, list them, track project progress, generate reports, and track iterations.

Since Agile has different functions, companies should invest in a tool that integrates all these functions into one. Things like collaboration, use cases, backlog prioritization, iterations, and burndown charts can all be managed using the same tool. If everything is managed using the right tool, managers will find it easy to handle and navigate agile.

Regular Communication

Regular communication is one of the most important things for companies when transitioning and navigating through agile. Agile methods such as workflow management, sprint planning, and scrum training require regular team communication between all stakeholders.

Since managers are the decision-makers and leaders of the teams in the company, they should understand the importance of communication for them to navigate the age of agile. Companies need to stress this and even train them on how to communicate and handle any issues from team members.

In addition, companies should make sure that their managers know where pain points come from in their teams. They should also understand how to create environments that work for every team member, or change the existing ones.

Give Managers Time to Adjust

Everything takes time. A company cannot transition to agile in one day nor can its managers adjust in a single day. When a company moves its managers from one way of doing things to another, it needs to give them time to adjust and learn the new modes of operation.

Similarly, navigating the age of agile is not easy for all managers. While some might take a few days to adjust, others might need a considerable amount of time. Therefore, companies need to ensure that they have given all managers enough time to adjust.

In addition, companies need to ensure that they have completed all projects that they might have lined up. The transition should not be fast-tracked.

Companies need to deliver software products on budget and time even if demands and requirements change. Agile management is essential for this, and companies have to make sure that their managers are ready to navigate it.
