TROY – Graphics and photographs- what is the difference? Is there a difference? Yes, and photographs are on the way out.
They have been getting squeezed out of the lives of everyday citizens for the last five years. Camera companies are leaning toward digital photography. Digital photography is much more versatile than standard photographs as images can be edited, surfaces can be lightened, and visual effects can be added, all with the click of your mouse. Not to mention, they can be shipped to journalists on CD-ROM?s or through e-mail in seconds. You no longer have to mail hardcopies or slides to them.
Slides have been a thing of the past, but what a nightmare those things were. A slide inserted upside down could ruin an entire presentation within seconds. We had an instance where one of our associates dropped a slide carousel before a presentation, and we had to piece it back together before we presented. From that day on, we took two carousels with us to every presentation. Luckily, those are a thing of the past and PowerPoint has taken over the presentation world.
In over 30 years, technologies have come and gone. New technologies to streamline PR are surely on their way to replace the more ?cumbersome? ways of working. One thing, however, has always and will always remain the same ? making and keeping relationships with your publics. Nothing can change that aspect of public relations. There is no technology that can make it easier, faster, or more time efficient. It is one of the only constants in this profession, and is one of the principal reasons I still enjoy doing public relations.
