A Darkin and a fire-wielding child is about to make their way to League of Legends’ roster.

As of 2023, League of Legends has 162 champions players can use when entering the Summoner’s Rift, and that number is about to get bigger. Riot Games has teased two new champions scheduled to come to the MOBA this year. Through a new video, the producers announced they’re making a more diverse champion pool. Riot will include champions of all genders, in-game skill levels, and cultures throughout 2023. For now, players with League of Legends accounts can expect a Darkin assassin and a support-oriented enchanter to join the fray. Although the details are slim now, there’s enough information regarding the two upcoming champs, Naafiri and Milio.

Milio the Enchanter

The next champion that will be released in League of Legends is Milio, a support enchanter hailing from Ixtal—a region that’s almost been forgotten by Riot Games since the release of Qiyana. During the Season 13 official 롤 대리, The stream revealed that Milio is a young child. In the lore, Milio travels to Ixaocan while carrying the hopes and dreams of his family on his back. Milio’s journey will broaden his horizons and bring him closer to discovering the Yun Tai’s darkest secrets.

Milio can use fire to heal his allies in League of Legends. The Riot producers touted the upcoming champion as the “fire healer,” so we can expect the youngster to be perhaps friends with other champs such as Nunu or Annie on the Rift. Of course, Milio can also use his fire-wielding skills to deal scorching damage to his opponents. We still don’t know what to expect of Milio regarding his abilities, but as time goes on, we’ll hopefully have more information and be able to try him out soon using a PBE account.

Naafiri the Darkin

After the release of Milio, you’ll have the chance to play Naafiri, the soon-to-be-released Darkin mid-lane assassin. Riot stated the Naafiri would have a straightforward kit and won’t have too much annoying text as opposed to other more complicated champions. Naafiri is a huntress who wants to track down her Darkin brothers. After being awakened from her slumber, she’ll stop at nothing to try and find her family.

Based on what’s been revealed, Riot added that Naafiri could use multiple “bodies” as part of her kit and use them to locate other Darkins. If all goes well, Naafiri will be one of the few Darkin champions available to play in League of Legends, as the last Darkin that was introduced was Kayn back in 2017.

Aurelion Sol CGU

Aurelion Sol’s CGU is slated to release in early 2023. Riot has already shown off some interesting new abilities that the late-game mid-lane mage will receive. For one, he’ll still be capable of flying, seeing as he is a relatively mobile champ in the first place; however, this ability will be tweaked soon, letting Aurelion Sol fly in various directions instead of just straight ahead.

The main reason why Riot Games chose to give Aurelion Sol the CGU is because of how he falters. The champion has the most incredible visuals in League of Legends, with fantastic lore to boot. Sadly, he falls short when it comes to gameplay. With the Comprehensive Gameplay Update, how it works is that it’ll essentially wipe out his entire kit without changing his lore or visuals.

CGU updates are usually done for champions whose gameplay doesn’t live up to the challenge or have gameplay issues that can’t be fixed by simply changing some abilities. If the changes are successful, Aurelion Sol will be the first champion to receive a Comprehensive Gameplay Update. You can expect these types of updates to come to other outdated champions. Essentially, the dev team will take his kit, throw it in the garbage, and start from scratch.

A Change in the Ranked Season

You’re dead wrong if you think that’s all you’ll get in 2023. The 2023 season of League of Legends will significantly change the ranked system. Typically, the year-long split goes for a whole year, but Riot decided to break it in half this time. This will involve a reset of ranks halfway through the season, and you know what that means—extra goodies! That’s right; an extra ranked skin will be up for grabs as a reward; as long as you’re on or above Gold IV, you’ll be eligible for the cosmetic item. Moreover, Riot noted that the rank reset for the mid-season won’t be as dramatic as the one that takes place at the beginning of every year.

2023 is Going to Be Lit for League of Legends

These announcements give you a lot to look forward to this year. As long as you’re patient, it won’t be long before Riot Games releases Naafiri and Milio on the PBE servers, where you can try them with your PBE account.
