LANSING – Governor
Rick Snyder is in Montreal to discuss boosting trade relations with Canada,
Michigan’s largest trade partner.
Snyder moved to the largest
French-speaking city outside of Paris after meeting with the Great Lakes
governors and premiers over the weekend in Quebec City.
During his visit to the city, Snyder
is to meet with Canadian and Quebecois government officials and business
executives on further building trade relationships and attracting new
investments to Michigan.
Among the persons Snyder met with
was Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre.
Snyder is also scheduled to give
comments to the Aero Montreal aerospace roundtable luncheon and will speak to
the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations before he returns to Michigan.
Already, Michigan is the second
largest trading state with Canada, sending more than $25 billion in goods to
Canada annually. In addition, more than 250 Canadian companies have operations
in Michigan, employing more than 30,000 Michigan workers.
