LANSING – Gov. Rick Snyder, in a break from his general refusal to discuss the presidential race, on Thursday sharply criticized Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Speaking to reporters in Grand Rapids, Snyder, according to audio posted by WJRW-AM, called the presidential election “a huge mess.”
Trump is under siege after a 2005 video recorded him talking about forcing himself sexually on women without their consent. He denied ever actually doing so, saying it was just talk. But several women have come forward in recent days saying Trump did in fact grope them or kiss them without permission.
On the video, Trump talked about grabbing women “by the p—y” and kissing them without permission.
“Trump’s recent comments were both revolting and disgusting with respect to women,” Snyder said.
The governor has not said whom he is voting for, calling it a private decision. But he has said all year he would make no endorsement in the presidential race.
“My focus has been on the state House races,” Snyder said Thursday. “We’ve done so many great things in Michigan and I want to work hard to help maintain a Republican majority in the House because look at the progress, the comeback of Michigan, let’s keep it going.”
