LANSING – The Small Business Association of Michigan is offering political candidates an opportunity to learn more about the key legislative and economic issues that affect the small business community and fill out a candidate survey that will help guide SBAM’s political action committee in its election endorsement decisions.

SBAM?s website has a link to the organization?s list of 2006 Priorities. The page includes a downloadable version of SBAM?s 2006 candidate survey as well as documents and background material on issues such as tax reform, the rising cost of health care, energy, entrepreneurial education, reducing the regulatory burden on small businesses and fostering entrepreneurial dynamism.

?In 2004, 21 of the 36 newly-elected lawmakers had small business roots,? said SBAM President and CEO Rob Fowler. ?We hope to have even more small business legislators elected in 2006. The small business community believes that it?s critically important to advocate for positive, pro-growth tax and regulatory policies at the state and local levels. Small business people will be focusing grassroots support for elected officials who will make sound decisions on the crucial issues facing Michigan in the next legislative session.?
