LANSING – The Small Business Association of Michigan has launched a full color monthly magazine to provide more reasons for current members to renew their dues and to woo new members to swell the ranks of a trade group that represents about 8,000 small businesses in every county of the state.

The charter edition will be mailed this week. It includes a special election issue that lets small businesses know which candidates and issues SBAM supports. Regular publication starts with the January 2005 issue.

“Our vision is that this publication and the resources it represents will not only be our flagship member communications vehicle, but that it will also fill a void in Michigan for a statewide publication that focuses completely, expertly and solely on small business,” said SBAM President Rob Fowler. “Because this magazine is designed by small business owners for small business owners, we’re confident it will be a useful resource for entrepreneurial success.”

An Editorial Committee will establish editorial policy and direction and help plan the magazine’s editorial calendar. The Committee consists of Chairman Paul Hense, CPA, Grand Rapids; Stacy Adado, Greater Lansing Business Monthly; Perry Ballard, Perry Ballard, Inc., St. Joseph; Kathryn Breighner, Healthy Child Publications, Harbor Springs; Mike Brennan, Michigan Technology News, Grand Rapids; Bob Fish, Beaner’s Gourmet Coffee, Lansing; Frank M. Fitzgerald, Clark Hill PLC, Okemos; Cynthia Kay, Cynthia Kay & CO. Media Production, Grand Rapids; Becki Kraus, Transitions Consulting Group, Troy; Carol Lopucki, State Director Small Business & Technology Development Center, Grand Rapids; Scott Moore, Moore Voices, East Lansing; Kelly Rossman-McKinney, The Rossman Group, Lansing; Cynthia Holste Pepper, DRT Consulting, Dearborn; David Weaver, Great Lakes Angels, Bloomfield Hills; and Thomas G. Zernick, Republic Bank, Lansing.

“Focus on Small Business” is directed by SBAM Vice President Communications Michael Rogers. The editor is Jennifer Higgins. Design and printing is done by Village Press of Traverse City.
