LANSING – The campaign to repeal the Single Business Tax on December 31, 2007, reports it will hand in their petition signatures on Tuesday next week, the SBAM Weekly Advocate reports.

The petition drive that was started by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson needed to collect 250,000 signatures and will hand over a reported 350,000 to the Secretary of State?s office. Once they are handed in it will take the state, it will take approximately four to five weeks to verify the names through a random sample selection process. When they are verified the legislature will have 40 days to pass it into law.

In related news, Michigan Gov. Granholm told reporters she believes the SBT is going to be repealed and is looking to begin negotiations with legislative leaders on a replacement. SBAM will keep you updated as this important issue continues to develop and our lobby team works toward tax reform.
