EAST LANSING ? The Small Business Association of Michigan announced six new board members, five new officers, and three advocates at its annual meeting June 23 in East Lansing.

The new board members are Dale Danver, owner of Sordal Inc., of Holland; Bob Fish, owner of BEANER?s Gourmet Coffee ? Lansing; Mike Fox, owner of Quality Air ? Midland; Becki Kraus, owner of Transitions Consulting Group ? Troy; Phil Musser, owner of Superior Economic Development Services ? Pelkie; and David Weaver, owner of Aimattech Consulting ? Bloomfield Hills.

Completing their terms of office and stepping down from the board of directors as of June 30 are Ellen Campbell, owner of Nitrate Elimination Co. ? Lake Linden; Cynthia Pepper, owner of DRT Consulting, Inc. ? Dearborn; and Paul Pickell, owner of ProTran Transportation ? Auburn Hills.

New Officers include: Jan Roncelli, owner of Bermar Associates of Troy, as Chair; The First Vice Chair is Jeff Van Winkle, of the law firm of Law Weathers & Richardson, Grand Rapids; The Second Vice Chair is Doyle Hayes, owner of Pyper Products, Battle Creek; The Secretary is Tim Colonnese, owner of KTM Industries, Lansing; The Treasurer is Mark Mitra, owner of Mitra Enterprises, Northville; The Immediate Past Chair is Chris Holman, owner and publisher of the Greater Lansing Business Monthly.

The officers? terms of office will run from July 1 to June 30, 2006.

Advocates named include:

Bill Lowry of Muskegon, editor and publisher of the MiBizWest and MiBizSouthwest publications, was recognized as Communicator of the Year. SBAM noted that Lowry has championed the cause for small business by reporting fairly and effectively on many crucial issues, including the crisis in Michigan manufacturing and the importance of business tax reform. He was also a prominent and early media supporter of the first annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business event.

Frank Lopez, founder, chairman and CEO of Aztec Manufacturing Company in Romulus, was named Advocate of the Year. Aztec Manufacturing operates as a tier-one full service supplier to the automotive industry. Lopez was recognized for his widespread community involvement, including his service on the Governor?s Council on Labor and Economic Growth, and for his work on behalf of workforce development.

Sen. Wayne Kuipers (R-Holland) was honored as Legislator of the Year. Sen. Kuipers was the only state lawmaker during the most recent legislative session to earn a 100 percent SBAM voting record on roll call votes important to small business.
