LANSING ? The Small Business Association of Michigan has released its list of 2006 legislative priorities. Leading the list is small business tax relief.

?We?ve focused on the issues that are important to spurring entrepreneurial dynamism in our state,? says SBAM Vice President Government Relations Barry Cargill. ?The stakes are high. Michigan continues to lag the rest of the nation in job growth and economic vitality. Expansion of the entrepreneurial small business sector is crucial to reviving our moribund economy.?

SBAM?s 2006 priorities are:

Small Business Tax Relief that Positions Michigan for Fundamental Tax Reform ? The tax system in Michigan must encourage the growth of the Michigan small business economy. The SBT repeal is scheduled to occur at the end of 2009. Michigan should move aggressively to debate the appropriate tax system for Michigan. SBAM supports repeal of the SBT and fundamental reform of Michigan?s overall tax structure.

State Budget ? Target government spending at programs that demonstrate value to entrepreneurial and overall economic competitiveness.

Health Care ? Contain the rising cost of health care.

Comprehensive Energy Plan for Michigan ? Build a sustainable comprehensive energy plan for Michigan that improves reliability, reduces small business cost and promotes alternative generation (choice).

Re-invent Manufacturing and Develop New Industries ? Foster the development of advanced manufacturing and breakthrough technologies and products.

Education ? Promote entrepreneurial education and prepare graduates to meet the employment skills and training needs of Michigan companies to be competitive in an ever changing global market.

Tourism ? Promote Michigan?s natural resource environment and $16 billion tourism industry.

Reduce Unnecessary Government Regulations.

Recognize and Reward Entrepreneurial Investment and Leadership.
