TRAVERSE CITY – Appia Communications announced it has won a patent for the underlying technology of AppiaSecure, which combines routing, firewall and security management functions in a single appliance.
The fine print is the a U.S. patent (8132245) was issued for “Local area network certification system and method.”
“We are very pleased that the Patent Office has recognized that our approach to comprehensive network security is unique,” said Victor von Schlegell, president of Appia Communications and a named inventor of the system. “We verify each user and check their PC for viruses, upgrades, and so forth, before they access the network. This keeps both the user and sensitive network resources safe.”
