TROY – Ten local companies have been selected for Automation Alley’s Trade Mission to Indonesia and Singapore Sept. 6-13.
The participating companies represent a wide range of industries, but all have one goal in common ? to boost global competitiveness and expand into Southeast Asia’s most dynamic markets.
In recent years, both Indonesia and Singapore have become increasingly desirable places to do business, and U.S. companies are taking notice. As Southeast Asia?s largest economy, Indonesia is on pace to see its GDP grow at a rate of 6.5 percent this year and next. Indonesia?s population of 251 million consumers includes an emerging middle class with increased spending power for U.S. goods and services.
Likewise, Singapore has topped the global ranking for the seventh year in a row as the ?world?s easiest place to do business,? according to the World Bank. And the city-state is considered a high-tech powerhouse and world-leading trade hub.
?We feel there is opportunity to expand in Southeast Asia,? Curry said. ?With presence and face-to-face contact through this trade mission, we will get some additional opportunities to meet with customers. We feel there is some real growth in that region that we can definitely go after.?
Automation Alley assists companies by helping them before, during and after trade missions. Companies meet directly with buyers of their products and services, attend business receptions and meet with government officials and business leaders. And the program is results driven. To date, Automation Alley trade mission and export activities have generated more than $282 million in export sales for company participants.
