PORTLAND, OR ? Avatron Software, which develop popular applications for the Apple iOS platform, has released of the Air Display app for the Mac App Store. Air Display for Mac turns a Mac OS X computer into a secondary wireless monitor for another Mac or a Windows PC.
The original Air Display app debuted in the iOS App Store in May 2010, turning the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch into an extra wireless monitor, adding up to 70 percent additional screen space to a computer.
?We were amazed by the response Air Display for iOS received in the marketplace and the accolades from the press,? said David Howell, CEO of Avatron Software. ?As our users have grown accustomed to the productivity advantages of using a second monitor, we?ve been inundated with requests for a Mac port of Air Display. We?re thrilled to announce Air Display for Mac, and to let people use their Mac laptop as an extra display while they work at their desktop computer.?
Air Display for Mac can operate both full-screen and in a window. Another new feature in the Mac version is that it can connect over Ethernet, which makes it operate much faster than Wi-Fi. This wasn?t possible in the iOS version of Air Display.
The performance on Air Display for Mac is extremely responsive, employing a dynamic compression algorithm. On a typical Wi-Fi network, mouse cursor refreshes are indistinguishable from a wired mouse. Over Ethernet, it is even faster. When reconnecting and disconnecting, windows automatically reposition, so it is not necessary to drag them back onto the Air Display screen.
Air Display for Mac requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later on an Intel CPU. The Windows PC support software requires XP (32-bit only) or Vista or 7 (32-bit or 64-bit). As with Air Display for iOS, both computers must be connected to the same local network, either Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
?Studies have shown that using a second monitor increases worker productivity,? explained Howell. ?For anyone who already owns two computers, or a computer and an iPad or iPhone, Air Display is an extremely cost-effective way to enjoy the efficiency of a dual-monitor configuration.?
The Air Display for Mac app is now available in the App Store for $19.99. This app is part of Avatron?s highly acclaimed family of productivity apps.
