DETROIT – Richard Rassel, Director of Global Client Relations for Butzel Long, received the 2008 Community Service Award presented by The Community House on June 10 in Birmingham.
The Community House initiated the Community Service Award in 1988 to recognize those people who have made extraordinary contributions through their professional careers. Its purpose is to express gratitude to those who have gone beyond the normal duties of their jobs to enhance the lives of people in the metropolitan Detroit area.
Rassel is past Chairman and CEO of Butzel Long. He also serves on the firm’s Board of Directors. Rassel practices primarily in the area of complex business litigation and arbitration with a special concentration in media law.
Rassel is very active in the community, including serving as a Chairman of the Board of the Holy Cross Foundation, Director of the Michigan Strategic Fund, a Director of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Detroit Regional Economic Partnership; a Trustee of William Beaumont Hospital; a past Director of the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition; a past President of The Community House; a former President and Trustee of the Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation; a Trustee of WTVS-Channel 56; a member of the Committee of Visitors of the University of Michigan Law School; a member of the President’s Council of Oakland University and its College of Arts & Sciences Advisory Board; a member of the Board of Advisors for the University of Detroit Mercy School of Business Administration; and a member of Leadership Detroit III. He is a Director and Secretary of the Detroit Legal News, Inc.
Rassel earned a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and a J.D. from the University of Michigan. He also is a Certified Judge Advocate having graduated from the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate School. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1989 and is a graduate of the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution Mediation and Arbitration Training Program. He is a resident of Bloomfield Hills.
